Minister For The Environment Lena Ek and YWCA-WMCA

The Swedish Minister For The Environment Excellency Mrs. Lena Ek will be participating in the YWCA-WMCA Side-Event at Rio Centro on June 21st. Y-ClimateAction proudly welcomes Minister For The Environment Lena Eks important contribution during the Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development to be held in Rio De Janeiro in less than three weeks time.

As the Swedish government’s key spokesperson for the environment, it is a great honour for Y-ClimateAction to welcome such a distinguished panellist to our event. Lena Ek previously, as Member of the European Parliament, sat on the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and has promoted women’s’ rights and gender equality. Her initiative at the Stockholm +40 Conference to endorse youth as one of the most important stakeholder groups illustrates her long standing commitment to inclusive democratic processes. By engaging with young members of the Swedish and the global civil society, Mrs. Lena Ek raises the youth dialogue and our concerns to the very top of the international agenda. We are truly grateful for this opportunity given to us by the Swedish minister.

As a representative of the global YWCA movement during the Rio +20 Conference, I will emphasise women empowerment. I hope that Minister Lena Ek can offer advice and courage to a younger generation of women around the world. My main objective during the dialogue is to communicate the importance of women empowerment on a global scale. Finally, I believe that I am speaking for the global alliance YWCA-YMCA when I say that this is an excellent opportunity for us to deliver a message about the Future We Want!
