Today was Gender day at COP18, emphasizing the need for women's representation in the UNFCCC.
Increasing the women's representation in the climate change negotiations is crucial but there is still a lot of work to be done!
I totally agree with this. There is need to link the daily reality of many women in the world and the negotiators... (ie in Africa, women are the majority of Agricultural labour, hence must be reached out to in order for them to understand climate change and the mitigation and adaptation strategies)
We are a group of young people within YMCA-YWCA Sweden, working towards a sustainable society and that the world's leaders should take responsibility on the climate issue. We have participated as official delegates of civil society at the three most recent UN climate conferences in Copenhagen 2009, Cancun 2010, Durban 2011 and are also having a delegation in Doha, Qatar, 2011. We likewise attended the UN world summit on sustainable development, Rio +20, in Rio de Janeiro in June this year, together with a whole international YMCA delegation of more than 40 people.
